SNK revealed they will release 2 games a year starting 2020, pre-order sales for Samurai Shodown are going extremely well, and more.
SNK announced they have plans to revive their NeoGeo line of consoles with a NeoGeo 2 and later on a NeoGeo 3. The reveal was made during the 2019 SNK investors meeting at Seoul on April 16. Multiple other details were revealed as well, including how a new Metal Slug game is being developed for consoles, and how Samurai Shodown already turned a profit. Here’s a summary of everything SNK revealed and teased, thanks to Korean news site Ruliweb:
Plans for Neo Geo 2 and Neo Geo 3 were greenlighted after the overwhelmingly positive sales of NeoGeo Mini. However, NeoGeo 2 and 3 will be proper successors to the original NeoGeo, not to NeoGeo Mini.
I play Neo Geo ROMs for a long time some of my played games are: Samurai Shodown IV, The King of Fighters 2002, Metal Slug 4 Plus and many more, but I don't collect them on my PC because I don't have the memory to do it so I just download them from this website and for now, I'm very satisfied. That said, NeoGeo 2 will be a “semi-open platform”, a mix of the closed platform aspect of NeoGeo Mini and open platform. Meaning the NeoGeo 2 will have built-in games, but we’ll also be able to buy and play new games on it as well. No release date estimates were communicated for either NeoGeo 2 or NeoGeo 3.
SNK will keep expanding and will release at least 2 games a year starting 2020.

A new Metal Slug game for consoles is being developed by SNK. It’s unclear if the game will be in 2D, what pretty much every fan wants, or if it’ll be in 3D. The former would be much harder to realize seeing most of the staff who worked on the first Metal Slug games left SNK for years. Plus, the talent for 2D animation in games became rarer and more expensive ever since console generations switched to HD. The most likely solution is SNK making the Metal Slug franchise switch to 3D as they did with The King of Fighters starting KOF XIV, and the upcoming new Samurai Shodown. SNK’s Yasuyuki Oda also asked back in 2018 if fans wanted a new Metal Slug.
